This card game is so popular that it’s been deemed the Cadillac of poker games. The reason is partly because learning how to play Texas Holdem Poker is relatively simple.

Step 1. The game begins by having the dealer announce that it’s time to begin the pot, except that it’s referred to as blinds in this case since the two players to the dealer’s left must start the blind without seeing any cards.

Step 2. The first player on the dealer’s left may put in the minimum, but the next player needs to put in double that minimum amount, called a big blind.

Step 3. The dealer gives everyone two cards each, referred to as pocket or hole cards.

Step 4. The person sitting on the left of the big blind may now either raise or call the bet, or fold. Learning how to play Texas Holdem poker includes learning how to bet and when not to bet.

Step 5. Moving in a clockwise mode, each player may then do the same.

Step 6. Once all bets are in, the dealer puts three cards out onto the center of the play area or the board. Those cards are referred to as the flop, and part of learning how to play Texas Holdem Poker is learning the vocabulary.

Step 7.  With these three cards you may mentally add them to your own hand and try for a better hand. Two additional cards will be added referred to as the turn or the river. Each time a card is dealt the bets can go higher or more players will fold.

Step 8. How to win: You can win in one of two ways, first of course is if everyone has folded but you, in which case this signals that you have won that hand, and you may take possession of the pot.

Step 9.  If there are 7 cards exposed, and two or more players are still up, there may be a Texas style showdown.

Step 10. You will have evaluated your hand throughout the play, of course, trying to get the best poker hand possible.

Step 11. In a showdown, the remaining players must lay down their cards. The player with the best poker hand wins by using the five cards on the table in combination with their own cards.
